TCS Coordinated Dress Information

As a Kingdom-minded school, Trinity Christian School promotes modest and moderate dress at school and all TCS events (1 Timothy 4:12, 1 Peter 3:3-4). The TCS dress code serves to set a foundation of excellence in student appearance that is appropriate in an educational atmosphere. The school reserves the right to establish standards of dress, grooming, and appearance at all school-related events and functions.

When shopping and choosing clothes for school, please consider the following questions:

Am I honestly trying to meet the dress code or trying to push the limits (Philippians 4:8)?
Have I responsibly chosen my clothing to honor God (Colossians 3:23)?
Am I working hard to create an atmosphere of unity for the good of the school (Romans 14:19)?
Am I respecting rules that have been established by school authorities (Romans 13:5)?

Setting the Dress Code Expectations:

Dress code tallies accrue throughout the semester. Any time a dress code tally is deemed necessary, it should be accompanied by a discussion of the heart and intention behind the clothing chosen for the day.

Overall, our dress code is predicated on safety, neatness, modesty, and comfort.

DAILY ATTIRE:

Girls:	Boys:
Tops: • Red, white, or navy polo style shirts or turtlenecks without ruffles or a logo. • Shirts, sweatshirts, jackets from the TCS Spirit Shop in school colors. • Only TCS or PLAIN red, white, navy, black, or grey sweaters or jackets – no logos – no denim. • Red, white, navy broadcloth blouse. • White Oxford blouses can be ordered from Designs in Thread.	Tops: • Red, white, or navy polo shirts and turtlenecks without a logo. • Shirts, sweatshirts, jackets from the TCS Spirit Shop in school colors. • Plain red, white, navy, black, or grey sweaters or jackets. • White oxford shirts.
Bottoms: • Navy, plaid, khaki shorts, skorts, or skirts (no more than 3 inches above the knee). • Navy or Khaki pants or capris – must be woven cotton or performance material, no stretch or knit fabric, and no pocket designs. • Red, navy, white modesty shorts must be worn under skirts and jumpers-no stripes, polka dots, or designs. • No jeggings or leggings worn as pants Jumpers/Dresses. • Polo dresses-red or navy. No extra ruffles on the bottom hem or collar. No emblems or sleeveless. They must be worn with modesty shorts, tights, or leggings. • Plaid, red, navy, or khaki jumpers (no more than 3 inches above the knee) worn with modesty shorts, tights, or leggings and a collared shirt.	Bottoms: • Navy or khaki shorts – no cargo style. • Navy or khaki pants – no cargo style. • Woven cotton or performance material.
Belts: • Must be worn with all pants, shorts, or skirts with belt loops. • Color – Red, white, navy, black, or brown (no animal prints or glitter). • *Not required for PreK or Kindergarten students. WEDNESDAY CHAPEL ATTIRE:

*Required for all students, K – 5th Grades.

Dress code during:
August, September, April, May

Girls:
• Khaki skirt, shorts, pants, or capris.
• White polo-style shirt, Oxford blouse, or broadcloth blouse; shirts must be tucked in.
• Modesty shorts with a skirt.
• Belt required if belt loops on bottoms.

Boys:
• Khaki shorts or pants.
• White polo-style shirt, Oxford shirt, or Polo style; shirts must be tucked in.
• Belt.

Dress code during:
October- March

Girls:
• Navy chapel vest.
*Chapel sweater vest is not required for Pre-K.
• Khaki skirt; with modesty shorts.
• White shirt Polo, Oxford blouse, or broadcloth blouse; shirts must be tucked in.
• Only solid red, white or blue tights may be worn with chapel attire. During extremely cold weather, below 42° for the high, girls may wear khaki pants instead of skirts.

Boys:
• Navy chapel vest.
*Chapel sweater vest is not required for Pre-K.
• Khaki pants.
• White shirt Oxford or Polo style; shirts must be tucked in.
• Belt.

GENERAL APPEARANCE:

Accessories:

• Hats and caps may not be worn in the school building and classrooms.
• Tattoos (including temporary) and body piercing are not permissible.
• Girls may wear pierced earrings. Earrings are not permissible for boys.
• No scarves or vests (other than TCS Spirit Shop vests) may be worn in the classroom.
• Smart watches are not permitted at school.

Hair:

• Hairstyles for boys should be trimmed above the collar and no lower than the bottom of the ear lobe and cannot fall below the eyebrows.
• No extreme hairstyles or colors, including cut-out designs.
• No excessive hair accessories including huge flowers, scarves, etc.

Jeans Day:

• Plain jeans, long denim shorts, or denim capris may be worn on designated days with a TCS shirt.
• No holes, sparkles, or fancy stitching are allowed.
• Low rise, stretch denim jeans, skinny or tight jeans, denim skirts/skorts are not acceptable.

Makeup:

• No makeup is allowed in elementary.

Shoes:

• For safety during PE activities, all students must wear lace-up tennis shoes on their scheduled days of P.E.
• No Flip Flops, high-heeled shoes, or tall wedges are acceptable at any time.

Socks:

• All socks may be solid red, white, navy, black, or grey; socks may have minimal stripes/designs in school colors.

Jackets:

• Students may wear any color of jacket while outside on break or during P.E.
• When they are in the classroom, they may wear solid red, navy, white, black, grey, or one from TCS Spirit Shop.
• No denim in the classroom.

Homecoming:

• 3rd-5th grade students may wear mums and spirit ribbons all day.
• PreK-2nd grade students may wear spirit ribbons only after chapel.

A few reminders:
• Chapel sweater is not required for PreK students.
• All shirts must be tucked in (except for PreK and kindergarten).
• No brand logos are allowed to be visible on any clothing item.
• Anything purchased from the TCS Spirit Shop is allowed as long as it is in school colors.
• Please label jackets and sweaters with your child’s first and last name.

Middle School students will wear coordinated dress daily Monday-Thursday.
All students must meet TCS dress code requirements for athletic travel and extracurricular travel (any time you represent TCS in our community or abroad).

COORDINATED DRESS:

Tops:
• Tops can be Trinity Christian School t-shirts or sweatshirts purchased from the Spirit Shop or TCS Rokkitwear shop, as well as red, white, or navy polo shirts (with buttons & regular sleeves).
• Jackets or sweaters can be the student’s choice.
• Jacket hoods, sweatshirt hoods, and hats may not be worn on the head while in the school building.
• A TCS shirt must be worn under all sweatshirts, hoodies, and jackets.
• No sports jerseys other than TCS sports jerseys may be worn over sweatshirts, hoodies, and jackets.

Bottoms:
• All shorts, skirts, capris, pants, or tailored joggers must be solid navy, khaki, black, or grey colored.
• Shorts worn in the classroom should be styled with a zipper and pockets (it’s possible to have a zipper but no pockets). They can be made of twill or other fabric.
• Shorts and skirts should be no less than 3 inches above the knee in length. Undergarments or spandex shorts may not be used to meet the length requirement.
• Athletic shorts with an elastic waist or drawstring are not appropriate for the classroom.
• Leggings may not be worn as pants but may be worn under a skirt. If worn under a skirt, the length requirement for the skirt remains no less than 3 inches above the knee in length at the front and back, with arms hanging relaxed at the side.
• Leggings may be worn under a skirt, but the length requirement for the skirt remains.
•·Pants/capris/tailored joggers can be traditional, khaki-style pants or a tailored jogger. These may have an elastic waist or zipper and can be made of twill or other fabric.
• Tailored joggers have a tailored fit, meaning they are not too tight or too loose. These are NOT athletic-styled sweatpants, coverups, or windsuit pants. Approved colors are navy, khaki, black, or grey.
• Jeans must have no holes or distressing on them.

Shoes:
• Shoes must be substantial enough to provide protection to the foot and not be likely to cause a trip or fall during the school day or while playing at break.
• No house shoes, shower shoes (thin flip flops), or athletic slides.

Retreats and Trips:
• Students must meet TCS dress code requirements for all travel. Athletic travel attire designated by the athletic director may be worn by athletes on travel days.
• Students may wear athletic shorts that are fingertip in length at school retreats. Spandex shorts must be worn underneath for modesty.
• Girls will wear a dark colored t-shirt over swimsuits at all school events.
• Boys will wear board shorts as swim suits and a t-shirt at all school events.

Gameday Dress for Team Members:
• Members of TCS athletic teams may wear a designated team shirt but will remain in coordinated dress bottoms during school on game days.

Competitive Athletics (CA):
*All TCS students are required to purchase and wear athletic clothing from the Spirit Shop during CA and Personal Fitness classes.
• Girls wear Trinity athletic shirts with either red or blue shorts, depending on the athletic season.
• Boys wear Trinity athletic shirts with blue shorts.
The only exception to this will be with gear that is specifically issued by a team coach.

The following is a general list of dress code requirements:
• Students should avoid wearing offensive or explicit references or designs which symbolize values contrary to Christianity.
• Clothing may not represent other area high schools.
• Hats or sweatshirt/jacket hoods may not be worn on the head inside the building.
• All students must meet TCS dress code requirements for athletic and extracurricular travel (any time you represent TCS in our community or abroad).
• Clothing should be neat and clean.
• Skintight, form-fitting, or clingy clothing, including leggings, should not be worn to school.
• Shower shoes, house shoes, pajamas, blankets, or robes may not be worn while in the school building.

The following is a general list of dress code violations:
• Facial hair for boys.
• Nail polish or make-up for boys.
• Extreme hairstyles or colors.
• Extreme piercings. The only acceptable piercings are in ears and for girls only.
• Tattoos, permanent or temporary.
• Hats, hoods, sunglasses, or other distracting accessories in the school building.
• Smartwatches with texting capability will be treated like cell phones during the school day.
• Headphones or earbuds should not be worn during the school day.

Clothing shall be of appropriate size, length, and fitting to cover undergarments and skin (boys and girls) when the student is standing, raising arms, sitting, stooping, or bending. Clothing bottoms must be at least two inches longer than the bottom of the fingertips with the arm extended straight by the student’s side.

All TCS Students should be fully clothed. Students should have covered all the parts of the body covered in this drawing, front and back with no holes in these areas.

Dress Code Expectations:

School Day Dress:
• Clothing should be neat and clean.
• Clothing should be the appropriate size, length, and fitting to cover undergarments and skin (boys and girls) when the student is standing, raising arms, sitting, stooping, or bending. Crop tops are not permitted.
• Clothing tops should cover the shoulders (cap sleeves are okay), and no cleavage should be showing.
• Clothing bottoms should be no less than 3 inches above the knee and display an overall sense of modesty.
• Holes or frayed areas on jeans should show no skin three inches above the knee.
• Leggings, flare leggings, and yoga pants should not be worn to school.
• Avoid wearing clothing with offensive or explicit references or designs that symbolize values contrary to Christianity.
• Avoid clothing that represents other area high schools.
• Hats or sweatshirt and jacket hoods may not be worn on the head inside the school building.
• No house shoes or thin flip flops may be worn at school.
• No pajamas, blankets, or robes may be worn in the school building.

Athletic Wear:
• All high school students are required to purchase and wear athletic clothing from the Athletic Department during the competitive athletic (CA) and personal fitness periods.
• Girls and boys will wear the navy TCS athletic shirts with grey shorts for boys and red shorts for girls during practices and in the weight room.
• The only exception is gear that is specifically issued by a team coach.

Retreats and Trips:
• Students must meet TCS dress code requirements for all travel. Athletic travel attire designated by the athletic director may be worn by athletes on travel days.
• Students may wear athletic shorts that are mid-thigh in length at school retreats.
• Girls will wear a dark colored t-shirt over swimsuits at all school events.
• Boys will wear board shorts as swim suits at all school events.

Hair, Appearance, and Accessories:
• Mustaches and beards will be kept neatly trimmed, clean, and not be excessive in nature.
• Extreme hairstyles and hair colors are not permitted.
• Hair must not cover eyes.
• Boys may not wear nail polish or make up.
• Extreme piercings are not permitted. The only acceptable piercings are in ears.
• Tattoos must remain covered if offensive or anti-Christian.
• Hats, hoods, sunglasses, or other distracting accessories are not permitted in the school building.
• Headphones and earbuds should not be worn during the school day.

Special Events Dress Code:
Girls should wear dresses, skirts, or slacks with shoes for graduation, Baccalaureate, the NHS Induction ceremony, and the High School Awards ceremony. Leggings may not be worn as pants.
Basic dress requirements:
• Length must be at least fingertip length. This includes slits and underskirts if the overskirt is sheer.
• Spaghetti straps and one-shoulder dresses are allowed.
• Spandex or modesty shorts should be worn under all dresses or skirts so you can flip, twirl, and dance the night away.
Not allowed: crop tops, strapless, backless, cutouts around the front and side waist area. No cleavage showing.
Girls may wear sleeveless garments but no strapless or off-the-shoulder garments.

Boys should wear dress slacks or jeans, collared shirts or suits, and shoes for graduation, Baccalaureate, the NHS Induction ceremony, and the High School Awards ceremony. Shorts are not allowed.

Homecoming Court and Prom:
• All dresses MUST be approved by designated high school personnel. (Non-TCS guests must have their dresses approved as TCS guidelines do apply to them.)
• *Please make an appointment in the high school office no less than two weeks prior to the event as there is a possibility you will be asked to make alterations.
• All alterations require the dress to be checked again.
Prom Dress Requirements:
• Length must be at least fingertip length. This includes slits and underskirts if the overskirt is sheer.
• Spaghetti straps and one-shoulder dresses are allowed.
• Strapless dresses are acceptable if the bodice is high enough and snug enough.
• Two-piece dresses are allowed; however, no midriff may show when you raise your arms above your head.
• Spandex or modesty shorts should be worn under all dresses or skirts so you can flip, twirl, and dance the night away.
Not allowed: crop tops or cutouts around the front and side waist area.
• No cleavage may show. Body tape may be used, but it may not be deemed sufficient.
